The company Arbor Vitae was founded in 2010 by Petra Banning, after she herself was confronted with the end of life due to illness. During her period of illness, Petra designed thirty ceramic coffins, each symbolizing something about what she was experiencing at that time. These artworks formed the foundation of her company, which has further evolved over the years and now focuses primarily on unique and personalized bronze urns. Symbolism is therefore very important in the special urns designed by Petra. Arbor Vitae stands for the Tree of Life, referring to the important role nature plays in the designs of Petra's urns.

Nowadays, she runs the company together with her son, aiming to support bereaved individuals in selecting a special urn for their lost loved ones.
